Are French Journalists being discriminated against in the US?

Six French journalists in two different groups were detained and treated like criminals when they arrived at Los Angeles to cover a video games trade show. They were later sent back to France according to Reporters Without Borders.







Group 1:

Arrival at LA:



2 p.m. on 10 May




Pic and Perrot passed through immigration but Alfonsi did not and at some point, was told that he would not be able to return to the United States again by an official.
Later, All three journalists were detained for a total of 26 hours during which time they spent a night in the cells of a US immigration detention centre, were subjected to six body searches, interrogated, handcuffed while being moved from one place to another, and fingerprinted.




Departure:



They were put on a flight for France at around 4 p.m. on 11 May and could only recover their passports at a stopover in Amsterdam.

3 p.m. on 11 May.







Falcoz and Gorsky passed through immigration but Patureau.



When Falcoz and Gorsky protested, all three journalists were detained for a total of 26 hours – nine of which were in an airport waiting room. During their detention, they spent a night in the cells of a US immigration detention centre, were subjected to repeated body searches, interrogated, handcuffed while being moved from one place to another, and fingerprinted.







Departure:



They were put on a flight for France at around 6 p.m. on 12 May.




The journalists who were initially denied entry (i.e. Patureau and Alfonsi) to US territory were told that they lacked the required press visa.
